Field Trip Resources

The following information will help your visit the Francis Beidler Forest run smoothly:

1. Please look over the pre-visit activities and information here to help your students maximize their experience in the swamp! You may also use our blog to show what activity is occurring as you approach your visit.
2. We have programming prepared from your scheduled arrival time until you are scheduled to depart. Timely arrival ensures an optimal educational experience!
3. Admission fees are due in lump sum on arrival. Teachers are admitted at no cost. Each person, student and chaperone, will be charged $3.50. If you select an extra hands-on/grade-specific activity, an additional $1.50 is charged per student/chaperone.
4. Plan on bringing your own lunches. There are five large and two small picnic tables along with a minimal selection of snacks and drinks for sale in the gift shop. Please bring trash bags with you as we will expect you to PACK OUT whatever you PACK IN! Thank you!
5. The “Swamp Shop” is stocked with many items from $1.00-5.00 with prices starting at $0.25. As a non-profit organization, we raise the money needed to keep this sanctuary open. We purposely keep our boardwalk prices low to make visits affordable and for this reason proceeds from the gift ship provide critical support to our program. You can see a sample of the available items here.
6. The naturalist will be leading groups of about 20 students. It is most helpful if each group is sub-divided into a student to chaperone ratio of 10:1. This helps the naturalist with crowd control and keeps the students focused along the walk. We appreciate this help!
7. Please have students wear visible nametags so we can call them by name.
8. Students will need to dress for the weather. We will be outside almost the entire program. Please wear ONLY enclosed shoes!! NO platforms, heels, flip-flops, or clogs.

We trust your experience at Beidler Forest will be exciting and educational and we appreciate your help organizing and supervising the group! We will expect to schedule a trip for you next year. Our schedule is available here. Please look over your calendar and let us know when you would like to visit again.
