Through the spring, Francis Beidler Forest will be offering a variety of Saturday morning activities. You can find all the details here.

Leopold Education Project Workshop (Beidler Forest) April 27, 2009

The Audubon Center at the Francis Beidler Forest will be hosting a workshop on April 27th for The Leopold Education Project. The Leopold Education Project (LEP) is an innovative, interdisciplinary, critical thinking, conservation and environmental education curriculum based on the classic writings of the renowned conservationist, Aldo Leopold. The LEP teaches about humanity's ties to the natural environment in the effort to conserve and protect the earth's natural resources.

Workshop: April 27th, 9am-4pm
Target audience: Non-formal educators and teachers grades K - 12
Registration fee: $25.00 per person for educator workshop
Deadline for registration April 15th 2009

An evening with an endangered species!
Join Audubon South Carolina for an evening of observing the endangered Wood Storks at Silver Bluff Audubon Center's Kathwood Ponds near Aiken, South Carolina.

Guests will enjoy a sampling of wine and hors d'oeuvres following the Wood Stork viewing. Bring your camera!

Reservations and pre-payment ($35 per person) are required and space is limited. Call (843) 462-2150 to register. Proceeds benefit Audubon South Carolina.

Christmas Bird Count (Statewide) December 2009
Participate in a Christmas Bird Count to add to over 100 years of data that tracks trends in bird populations. Check the Carolina Bird Club website to find a count near you or contact Jeff Mollenhauer at 843-462-2150 or via email for more information.
     
2nd Annual Horse Trail Ride and Fundraiser (Beidler Forest) January 2010
Audubon South Carolina invites you to participate in a day of horseback trail riding in the heart of Four Holes Swamp located in and near Francis Beidler Forest. Ride trails beneath the forest canopy and savor a part of the Lowcountry’s authentic swamp experience. It’s truly off the beaten path. Enjoy the peace and serenity that the Forest offers; hear the sounds of bird and breeze that have echoed through the trees for ages. Saturday Organized Ride – Rain or Shine: 10:00 a.m.; lunch is provided: Cost per rider: $25.00. Proceeds will support Beidler Forest Audubon Center & Sanctuary. Great Backyard Bird Count (Silver Bluff) February 2010
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds. Participants tally the highest number of birds of each species seen together at any one time (teachers: click here for lessons).
     
6th Annual Horse Trail Ride (Silver Bluff) March 2010
The Silver Bluff Audubon Center and Sanctuary Trail Ride provides riders nearly 14 miles of trails winding through the varied habitats at Silver Bluff. A mile of trail near the Savannah River was a new addition to the route last year. The public is invited to Silver Bluff Audubon Sanctuary in Jackson, SC, to enjoy a day in nature filled with wonderful activities. Four-in-Hand Club members Jack Wetzel and Jacqueline Ohrstrom are sponsoring the event to introduce the public to the unique beauty of Silver Bluff and to raise funds to support the protection of this remarkable natural asset just outside Aiken.

Attendees will be able to enjoy guided bird walks and raptor demonstrations and to view the coaches and carriages as they wind along the wooded trail. The day will culminate with luncheon catered by the Green Boundary Club. Reservations are required. ($50/person) All proceeds benefit the Audubon Sanctuary at Silver Bluff.

     
Wine and Warblers (Beidler Forest) April 2009

Join expert birdwatchers for an evening on the boardwalk and explore the wide variety of songbirds that travel to Beidler Forest each Spring. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and wine tastings as you explore the ancient swamp forest. Proceeds benefit Audubon South Carolina.

$40 per person. Reservations and advance payment are required. Walks begin at 5:00 p.m. Please make reservations for your time slot by calling (843) 462-2150.
